Resources for Assistance During Covid-19

The effects of the corona virus are hitting families hard in Nebraska. Even if they don’t actually have the virus, they are feeling the economic impact. Often doubly burdened are families where a wage earner has suffered a work or personal injury.

Probably the first resource for families having difficulty paying for food, housing, or utility costs is to dial 211.  This hotline is accessible by phone or text.  You can also find a searchable webpage at 211iowa.org. (The link says Iowa, but the site includes Nebraska resources.) This site has links for assistance for food, housing, financial assistance, hotlines, and many other needs.

A good resource for groceries is Food Bank for the Heartland https://foodbankheartland.org/covid-19/. This website has up to date information on programs such as drive-up mobile pantries, which have no requirements to attend.

Information on assistance for bills can also be found at https://www.needhelppayingbills.com/html/nebraska_assistance_programs.html.

Some of these organizations may have altered methods of assisting clients due to the corona virus, but entities are doing their best to reach the people who need help.

For example, the Omaha Community Foundation has led other local organizations to establish the COVID-19 Response Fund to provide additional financial support to areas of need – food support, health care, emergency housing, emergency financial assistance, and assistance to seniors.

The federal government is also working on initiatives to help working families get through the Covid-19 emergency.  Information is changing hourly, so please reach out for help if you need it, and please provide it if you are able.

As always, please call if you have any questions.

Be Safe!
