How To Stay Informed and In Touch With Your Attorney

Good Communication Can Maximize Your Case’s Outcome

As a Nebraska workers’ compensation law firm, one of our important tasks in representation of injured workers is to gather evidence for their claim. Evidence can come in many forms including accident reports, wage documentation, and, most importantly, medical records. To effectively negotiate with the insurance company, we need to have a full picture of your injuries, and this includes having up-to-date medical information.

We know keeping track of all the paperwork related to your work injury can be difficult, so following is a list of ways, you can help us to help you:

  • Notify us when you have a medical appointment. Jeff will want to speak with you before and after the appointment.
  • If you want to see a new medical provider, or are referred to a new medical provider, you should let us know. If the new doctor is not approved by the workers’ compensation insurance carrier, bills may not be approved. Provide us with all medical bills and receipts for medical expenses.
  • Inform us immediately if you have an additional injury of any kind –whether it is work-related or non-work-related.
  • Keep track of dates and distances to all medical appointments in your mileage log. Let us know when you need a new mileage log, and we will send one to you. Be aware that mileage expenses may take up to 30 days to be reimbursed by the workers’ compensation insurance company.
  • Notify our office if you have any change of address or contact information.

If you need copies of any important documents for your records, our staff will gladly provide these to you. We strive to keep all clients informed throughout the process. If you have a question about whether a document is one that we need for our records, just call and ask. It is better to provide us with too much information than to leave out evidence that can be used to help your case.

Remember that once you are represented by an attorney, the insurance company should not contact you directly. If you receive any correspondence or calls from the insurance company, let us know as soon as possible.

At Putnam Law Offices, our goal is to keep open lines of communication throughout the workers’ compensation claim process. These lines of communication, however, extend beyond phone and email updates. The recorded evidence of your medical treatment is crucial to your claim, and the more information you provide to us about your treatment, the easier it will be for us to ensure that your evidentiary record is complete and accurate.
