Talcum powder – you would think it was one of the most innocuous products available. It is associated with babies and cleanliness. But talc is actually a mined substance that can be found close to asbestos deposits. When asbestos is mixed in with talc, even in minute quantities, the asbestos fibers can lead to cancer after contact with internal tissues. Women who have used talcum powder for personal hygiene, by applying it directly to the genital area or on sanitary napkins, have an increased risk of ovarian cancer, especially if they have used the product regularly for many years.
