I’m thinking of hiring a workers’ compensation attorney. What questions should I ask before I hire them?

When you are interviewing a workers’ compensation attorney, you want to make sure you are getting the best possible representation for your claim.

At Putnam Law, we always are willing to answer potential clients’ questions about our background and our attorneys.

When you are considering hiring an attorney, be wary of those who promise you certain amounts of compensation.  What you should be looking for is an attorney that is honest, experienced, and who you get along with.

Here are some questions that will help you choose a good lawyer for your Omaha workers’ compensation claim:

What is your experience in workers’ compensation?

Learning about how long they have been practicing workers’ compensation law, what courts they have practiced in front of, and what types of claims and appeals they have handled will give you a good idea about their experience.

Have you represented clients with similar injuries?

Remember that no two work injuries are the same, so it will be impossible to find a lawyer who has handled a case exactly like yours.  But asking about their experience with similar injuries or similar situations can help you determine whether they have the knowledge and experience to help with your claim.

How often can we be expected to be in communication?

Attorneys, like many other professionals, all have different personalities and work styles.  You might only want the basic, occasional update about your claim, or you may want to know about every communication with the other parties.  Talk to any prospective attorneys about what you are looking for and see if they are a good fit.
